The Blackpool Sentinel [incorporating Voices From The Glen] is a socio-cultural music blog brought to you from time to time by Martin O’Connor & Colm O’Callaghan, both of whom should really know better.

The blog deals mostly, although not exclusively, with alternative music from the 1980s and 1990s, much of it Irish and much of it long lost. And with good reason.

Colm works in television and spent many years writing about music for a variety of different outlets. Several of those pieces have been re-posted here due to unpopular public demand. He will also contribute regular new pieces, many of which will reference Trashcan Sinatras, Serengeti Long Walk, E.L.O., The Frank And Walters and Into Paradise.

Martin is a librarian based in Cork, from where he pulls all of this together and tries to make some sort of sense of the raw material. He attended the infamous Sultans of Ping F.C. show in his native Limerick and lived to recount the tale. More recently – but no less dangerously – he was one of the trio behind the Sir Henry’s Exhibition in U.C.C. He now runs a weekly radio show for UCC98.3 Campus radio. This show, appropriately enough for a Library Radio show is called Shush! Sounds from UCC Library.
